Kadafi El-Kardah is a Philadelphia native that is passionate about urban planning, STEM education, and the great outdoors. He currently works as the Community Engagement Specialist at the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC), an environmental nonprofit that protects and restores both the natural and built environments. He provides education to residents, schools, and city employees on the impacts of stormwater pollution and the benefits of green stormwater infrastructure.
He has a strong interest in connecting people to resources as well as educating and supporting those around him. Prior to PEC, Kadafi worked for the Pennsylvania State University on a project that gathered community feedback on urban park usage, park revitalization, and resident’s sense of belonging. For several years, he has also led a literacy enrichment after-school program for the Free Library of Philadelphia and assisted with the operation of GSK Science in the Summer, a free science education program for elementary school youth, at over 30 library branches across the city.
In his spare time, Kadafi likes to attend community meetings and explore the parks and hidden gems around the city. He is a member of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission’s (DVRPC) Public Participation Taskforce and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s (SEPTA) Citizen Advisory Committee. He is also a trained Philadelphia Citizen Planner through the Philadelphia City Planning Commission (Citizen Planning Institute) and a certified tree tender through the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.
