Speak for the Trees
Boston, MA

David (pronounced dah-VEED) is Executive Director of an emerging nonprofit in Boston called Speak for the Trees. The organization focuses on increasing the livability, resiliency, and social and environmental equity in Boston through tree plantings, stewardship, education, and outreach. Through this lens, trees become a tool to connect people to each other, their communities, and the larger environmental problems facing the planet. Formally a high-school physics teacher at Newton North, David holds a Master's degree in History of Science and a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction, both from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has a long held interest in social justice and the ways that the idea of "science" has shaped human's understanding of their relationship to knowledge, power, and selves. He lives in Watertown, MA with his partner, two children, and three backyard chickens.
