This year I became the Director of Education for Pinelands Adventures (www.PinelandsAdventures.org) in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. My goal is to introduce people to the beauty and unique ecology of the Pine Barrens, teach outdoor recreation activity skills, and inspire others to advocate for the Pinelands. In 2012, I completed a 37 year career in public education. During that time I taught special needs, gifted and talented, first grade, third grade, and all subject areas of sixth grade. I found my niche teaching sixth grade environmental science for twenty-two years. Major highlights in Shamong Township include: developing the environmental education program and coordinating the annual sixth grade camping trip, starting and advising the Indian Mills Memorial Student Council, starting and coaching middle school wrestling program, and developing a middle school Act Locally Club.
In my community, I was an officer and member of the PTA. Currently, I am the Vice Chair of the Evesham Township Environmental Commission and Co-Chair of the Green Team/Sustainable Evesham. I am the founder and Chair of a newly official nonprofit, The Friends of the Black Run Preserve (www.blackrun.org) . We are working to implement a Concept Plan for the Black Run Preserve, a thousand acres of pristine Pine Barrens open space in Evesham Township. I am also a recent graduate of the NJLEARNS Program, Educating for Sustainability.
