Katherine grew up in Washington, DC and became fascinated by the ideas of food justice and sustainable agriculture as a college student at the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating with a BA in Geography, she shared this passion with others for two years while working as an environmental and nutrition educator with students from grades K-12. Katherine then had the privilege to live in Ecuador for a year from 2011-2012 as a Fulbright Student where she researched  the food and agriculture systems of indigenous farming communities in the southern Andean region of the country. Since her return to the US, she has pursued a deeper understanding of plants, justice and farming. After receiving a certificate in Ecological Horticulture and Agriculture from the University of California, Santa Cruz, she returned to the Mid-Atlantic in search of farm work. This year, she begins her second season as a crew member at Potomac Vegetable Farms. There she focuses on greenhouse and irrigation management.
