Lena Golze Desmond
I'm currently an Associate with Feller Law Group a Brooklyn-based law firm specializing in energy law, as well as the lead collaborator for 'Law for the Environmental Grassroots', an informal collaboration designed to increase access to legal resources for grassroots groups and attorneys. I'm a 2013 Fellow and current Board Member of the NYC Environmental Leadership Institute (NYCELLI) and a 2014 ELP Fellow.
Previous work experiences include Program Manager at the Human Impacts Institute (an art + climate education non-profit), as Environmental Program Associate at the Overbook Foundation, and volunteer attorney with the New York Attorney General's Environmental Protection Bureau. I graduated from Washington and Lee School of Law in 2010 (and helped represent coal miners as part of the Black Lung Legal Clinic). I also (yay overeducated / underemployed!) got a M.Sc. in Environmental Management from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam in 2011, and my undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in 2004.
I believe that there's an incredible and system-changing amount of potential with existing individuals, groups, and coalitions, and my long term professional (as well as personal) goal is to find ways to help unlock that within the fields of environmental + energy law / environmental justice / access to justice.
And if all else fails - I'm also proud human caretaker of her dog Perseus (Percy), and really think I have a shot at keeping all of my houseplants alive this year.
