As the Health Policy Specialist for the Ecology Center, Mara manages the Health Leaders Fellowship program and educates decision makers, health professionals, and the public on the connections between the environment and human health. Mara works closely with partners throughout the state and nationally on campaigns to strengthen environmental policies and improve public health outcomes.
Her interest in the connections between health and the environment was peaked while studying abroad in Brazil and saw local health professionals advocating for stronger environmental policies. Mara joined the Ecology Center in July 2015, after participating in the first cohort of the Ecology Center’s Health Leaders Fellowship. Mara has a Masters in Public Health and BS in Kinesiology with a concentration in health promotion from Michigan State University. Prior to the Ecology Center, Mara worked as a research assistant for Michigan State University’s College of Nursing.
