Regina Strong is an effective advocate for change. She currently serves as Senior Policy Director in the executive office of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Previously, she served as the director of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign in Michigan. In that role, she led the effort to transition the state’s energy generation from coal dependency to clean, renewable energy. During her tenure with the club she has worked with the Beyond Coal Campaign team to achieve retirement announcements for 6 coal plants in Michigan.
For more than 30 years, Regina has been a leader in public affairs and advocacy. She has held executive leadership positions in the private, non-profit and public sectors. Her numerous leadership positions, include: Director of Public Relations and Global Communications for EDS, Vice President of Marketing and Chief Operating Officer for NorthStar Community Development Corporation, Director of Communications for March of Dimes – Southeast Michigan Chapter, Executive Director for Community Development Advocates of Detroit and President of The Stronger Image.
As a passionate voice for change, she previously served as the director of the community development trade association in Detroit. In that role, Regina advocated to preserve the ability for nonprofit developers to build affordable housing for seniors and families. She also advocated for commercial revitalization and received Main Street Certification from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
In her community Regina has also been active. She served as previous co-chair for the West Bloomfield United We Walk march for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, previous executive board member of the West Bloomfield High School PTO and as former Vice Chair of the West Bloomfield Lakes Area Democratic Club. In addition, she is a long time precinct delegate currently serving in Commerce Township.
Regina holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University, a graduate certificate in strategic communications management from Purdue University and a Master of Science in Strategic Communications from Purdue University. She also earned Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America.
She has served as the Public Policy co-Chair for the Southeast Michigan Advisory Council for the Michigan Nonprofit Association and is a graduate of the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Leadership Detroit program. Regina currently resides in Commerce Township, Michigan.
