Stephen handles various media/communications, organizing/outreach, publishing and marketing efforts for efforts rooted in sustainability, justice, and peacework. A strong value system has driven his work for organizations such as the the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, Envision Peace Museum, the Earth Quaker Action team, the journalism outfit WagingNonviolence.org, and his co-direction of an award-winning documentary film about the issues and events surrounding Occupy Wall Street. He helped lead the initial marketing and business planning for Hermit Thrush Brewery in Brattleboro, VT, and currently works with the sustainability reporting software company OneReport.
Stephen volunteers as a town commissioner to the Windham Regional Commission and with the Ecovation Hub, a regional economic development initiative. Earlier in his career, Stephen worked extensively with the Quaker community and was an educator and director of experiential learning programs that utilized alternative classroom environments and the outdoors. He moved to Vermont, and purchased a cabin above the floodplain, after working as a documentarian on the Jersey Shore in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. He and his wife Lisa are working to transform their property into a climate-resilient eco-cabin that produces all of its own energy and a portion of its own food.
