Tyler works across the three University of Southern Maine campuses to coordinate sustainability initiatives and advise the university community on the best ways to decrease overall environmental impact as the Assistant Director for Sustainable Programs.
Tyler’s responsibilities include overseeing environmentally sensitive waste management and reduction practices, recommending sustainable building and renovation projects and materials, investigating alternative transportation options, educating and developing appropriate programing for students, staff, and community members, reporting greenhouse gas emissions and implementation of USM's Climate Action Plan, effectively communicating and mobilizing the USM community, and thematic oversight of university operations to ensure economic and environmental sustainability and to encourage culture change. In addition to her role in Facilities Management, Tyler has also taught lab sections of Fundamentals of Environmental Science and an experiential sustainability first year experience lab at USM. Her favorite parts about her job are getting to learn new things happening in the world of the environmental sustainability, having an excuse to connect frequently with community groups, and wrangling her goofy group of non-traditional student assistants.

Tyler has a BA in Environmental Studies from Bucknell University and began in the field as the Sustainability Coordinator for Dining Services (Aramark) at the University of Southern Maine in 2009.
In addition to work, Tyler loves to spend time at her eco-homestead in inland Falmouth, Maine, just northwest of Portland, Maine with her partner Andy, beloved cat Phin (not pictured), apple trees, raspberry brambles, hazelnut bushes, grape vines, herbs & vegetables. Her preferred mode of travel is by bicycle and she enjoys going to dance parties! She is originally from Purcellville, VA although she spent her summers on the Maine coast with her grandparents. She has lived in Maine full time since 2007.
